phakic IOLs.
⁃ Extensive experience with phakic lens surgery, with hundreds of procedures carried out so far.

Vitreo Retinal surgery
⁃ In 2019 Dr Borasio successfully completed a 2-week full-immersion Course on Vitreo-Retinal Surgery. The course was held in Bremen, Germany, by the European Vitreo Retinal Training School (EVRTS), 29th April to 10th May 2019 and the Faculty included the biggest names in the field from around the world.

Innovator in Ophthalmology:
⁃ In 2006 Dr Borasio developed BESSt, a groundbreaking formula improving the accuracy of IOL power calculation in cataract patients who previously underwent LASIK/PRK. The formula was published on the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery and was presented at numerous international Conventions. BESSt was then improved with BESSt 2 (unpublished) and the formula is still amongst the most accurate ones available for this purpose.
⁃ The formulas were then integrated in software programs (“BESSt IOL Power Calculator” and “BESSt 2 IOL Power Calculator”) which are still used by hundreds of ophthalmologists around the world.
⁃ Dr Borasio is a self-taught software programmer and in 2009 he developed “EYE PRO”, the first Ophthalmological App ever released for the iPhone/iPad. Subsequently he released many other Apps “VA Converter”, “BESSt 2”, “AstigMaster”, “AstigPLOT”, “Eye Sketch” which are currently used by > 10,000 ophthalmologists around the world.

Post LASIK/PRK Biometry:
⁃ For his work on post-LASIK biometry and BESSt formula, in 2013 Dr Borasio was awarded Membership at the prestigious “IOL POWER CLUB”, a non- profit organization dedicated to advancing the science of intra-ocular IOL power calculation which meets annually in closed, invitation-only meetings. There are only around 20 members of this organization, among which the fathers of modern biometry such as Kenneth Hoffer, John Retzlaff, Jack Holladay, Wolfgang Haigis, Thomas Olsen, Jaime Aramberri.

Publications and Research activity:
⁃ Dr Borasio authored several peer-reviewed articles on the most prestigious Ophthalmic Scientific Journals. Topics included post LASIK/PRK biometry and Vector analysis of astigmatism following cataract surgery (Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery - JCRS), Vector analysis of astigmatism following limbal relaxing incisions (Graefes Archives of Ophthalmology), genetics of keratoconus (Investigative Opthalmology and Visual Sciences - IOVS).
